DIMENSIONAL ACETATE

If you've ever tried embossing on normal acetate you will know that it warps and distorts as it is heated so unless you use the specialised "heat-resistant acetate", it can be problematic for embossing. However, you can use this distortion to your advantage by stamping, colouring, and heating. While it is still warm, manipulate the acetate to give it some dimension and waves to create a unique embellishment for your atc's or cards. I've included some videos so you can see the dimensional aspect of these acetate shapes.

FILM STRIPS

This class is about using film strips as the focal piece on an atc. I have used a couple of film strip dies that I've had for a while and a film strip made from acetate coloured with alcohol inks, then the edges have been given the typical edges using my Cinch Book Binding Machine. The beauty of using the Cinch Machine and acetate is you can make these strips as wide as you like, remembering to keep the scale of your piece in relation to the square holes that are punched along the edges. Alcohol inks make it easy to add your colouring to the acetate and if you make it too dark, a little isopropyl alcohol will remove some of the colour.

where we used watercolour paint to create
stacking shapes.)

"Before"
(An embossed background with the same film strip
die that was used above but with embossing powder
to add the gold texture to it.)

LAYERED ACETATE

This is a technique I've been wanting to do for a while as it allows your background to have some texture to it while floating a piece of acetate above it, which also has some additional elements to create depth.  Not a technique that can be appreciated fully unless you are holding it in your hand though I'm hoping by including the picture of the side-view of "Anemones", it will give you some idea.  I used die-cut shapes cut from JAC (double-sided adhesive paper) to create the layers on top of the acetate and then used foil on those.  Though I also added some normal coloured die-cut shapes on a couple of them as well for extra interest.  For this technique, Couture Creations skinny foam tape and squares are your friend (I just about exclusively use the black as it gets lost in the shadows underneath).

"Anemones"

Side view of Anemones, showing the raised areas
of the seaweed on front of the acetate, then the
fish is raised on top of the acetate as well.

"Dark and gloomy"
This one is actually a shaker!  The little crystal and
metal skulls and little skeleton inside the coffin
all move about along with some Distress Glitter.

"Dead of Night"
The bat is once again raised on top of the acetate.
